Mweya safari lodge is located in western Uganda on a peninsular in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National park, it is also surrounded by mountain Rwenzori also known as the mountains of the moon and bordered by the rift valley hills in the East. Mweya safari lodge is strategically located in a position for the view of the fresh waters of Lake Edward and Kazinga channel in every corner of the lodge. It is one of the luxurious safari lodges in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park.

From Entebbe international airport, Mweya safari lodge takes less than an hour to be at the lodge.

Mweya safari lodge is approximately 6 hours drive or 420km from Entebbe airport, the lodge can be accessed via Masaka, Mbarara, Bushenyi, Bunyaruguru, Kicwamba, Kyambura to Kabatoro gate or Katungulu gate to Enter Queen Elizabeth National park and continue driving to Mweya safari lodge.

Mweya safari lodge also provides accommodations of cottages and tents that suites the needs of the travellers including family cottages like Rwenzori cottages and the royal cottages which are more affordable to families.

There are also luxurious cottages like the Queen’s cottage and the presidential cottage which meet the demands of the luxurious travellers.

Therefore there is Presidential cottage, Queen’s cottage, 2 family cottages, 2 luxury tents and 2 standard tents.

Mweya safari lodge has beautiful accommodations of the presidential cottage, Queen’s cottage, royal cottages, deluxe all with bathrooms, power and the Balcones with beautiful views of the Kazinga channel freshwaters.

Mweya safari lodge offers facilities like restaurants with both international and local dishes, swimming pools, poolside bar and normal bar, souvenir shops with art and crafts things, Dstv, the lodge also has spacious dining among others.

  • Standard rooms

The standard rooms are in single, double and twin with views of the Lake Edward and Lake George, all rooms have balcony doors, suite bathrooms, fans, telephone, swimming pool, restaurant, conference facilities among others.

The deluxe rooms include all things found in standard rooms and twin and double rooms with king-sized beds, Ac units, and large windows with views of Kazinga channel.

Tourist activities done from Mweya safari lodge

Mweya safari lodge being in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National park, there are several tourist activities that are done around including;

  • Game viewing

This involves driving through the park watching and learning different kinds of wild animals. Queen Elizabeth National park is a known tourist destination for wild animals in Uganda including elephants, buffaloes, hippopotamus, warthogs, lions, bushbucks, antelopes, kobs among others. Game drives can also be done in the Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National park where tree-climbing lions are found sleeping on the top of the trees running away from insect bites and sunshine.

Other Uganda destinations for game drives include Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Mburo, Semulik, Pian-Upe game reserve and Kidepo National park. To fully explore most of those destinations, you need to book a 10 day Uganda safari package with 1 – 2 nights in each national park.   • Boat trips

A boat cruise is done from Kazinga channel during the morning and afternoon hours with the scenic views of the park and lots of water-loving animals like crocodiles, hippopotamus, buffaloes, many bird species on the water banks and normally lasts 2-4 hours and must-do activity by all clients that spend a night Mweya safari lodge. Hiking is another activity you cannot miss when you stay at Mweya safari lodge in Queen Elizabeth National park, hiking can be done in Maramagambo where you enjoy the tropical rainforest, the tall trees, hiking can also be carried out in Kyambura gorge that harbours wild animals like chimpanzees, monkeys, baboons, lions, leopards among others.

  • Chimpanzee trekking

This is carried out in Kyambura gorge another destination for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. The activity a breathtaking experience since the travellers are allowed to spend an hour in the presence of the chimpanzees in the jungle. However, the hike in search for the chimps and other primates is quiet strenuous and one must be physically fit for a successful trek.

  • Nature walks

Nature walks are conducted in the Mweya peninsular as you watch different types of animals like the lions, elephants, leopards, bushbucks, antelopes, warthogs among others. More of the walks conducted in Imaramagambo forest to see the pythons in the bat caves as well as several forest birds.

  • Birding

There are several bird species that can be watched from Kazinga channel, Mweya peninsular, Kasenyi area, Imaramagambo forest, Ishasha sector, kyambura gorge, Katwe area among others including African jacana, yellow-backed weavers, fish Eagle, pink and white-backed pelicans, pied kingfishers and so on, an activity that cannot be missed by birders.
